Screening hit disposition notes examiners trust

Why vague “false positive” labels fail walkthroughs—and how to write dispositions that stand up.

Sanctions and PEP screening only works if hit closures can be reconstructed months later. A one-word false-positive tag does not explain why names matched or why the customer was cleared.

Effective dispositions cite identifiers compared (date of birth, nationality, address), list sources checked, and name the reviewer. Dual control for true matches and close near-matches should be visible in the ticket trail.

Rehearse a walkthrough with an analyst who did not close the sample hits. Ambiguity that surfaces in rehearsal is cheaper than ambiguity in a supervisory interview.
